One week has passed by in the Windy City
Its hard to summarise, especially when trying to be Witty
We arrived with excitement, bags full and sun shone,
Being careful about plans, as soon they would be gone
Reunited with a brother, a son, a great friend,
A trip to crown fountains, a steak dinner the first night did end
On the Saturday to an arts fair, wondering around the old town
Sculptures, paintings and a Union Jack metal gown
The atmosphere was buzzing and the weather was hot
Walking through picturesque streets, there were a lot…
A stop off at O’Briens bar for a beverage & to watch the hawks play
Returning to the apartment for food & rooftop fireworks, great first day!
Sunday, a rest day, or so one would think,
Swimming and gym sessions and macys shopping (man I need a drink!)
In the evening to the 3 forks restaurant, for dining alfresco
And afterwards to Chicago blues festival, the ambience was the best(o)
Monday we took an architectural tour of the city
Here they turn block shapes and grey into pretty
Fascinated and educated we stepped off the boat tour
Walked along navy pier to view exhibited stained glass and much more
Walked to Buckingham fountains on Tuesday, blooming flowers everywhere
Met Sam for Mexican food and shoe shopping, the heat more than I could bear!
In the evening to the signature room, in the Hancock building, floor 95.
The views across Chicago at sunset make you happy to be alive
On Wednesday I chilled whilst mum went for a walk
Dinner at Julie bacons, lots to celebrate and lots of talk
On Thursday we cycled several miles down to the south
Back in the evening ravenous for food in the mouth
To the Lockwood restaurant we went, beautiful setting and posh
Chatted and dined on some pretty good nosh
Afterwards to the wit bar, a pretty cool place
The Chicago elite seemed to drink and dance here – at a fast pace
On Friday we met up with perrin my great friend
To the science and industry museum we stayed till the end
Journeyed up to the north to meet some family friends at theirs for dinner
BBQ and catch up talks, we were onto a winner
On Saturday Sam and I ventured out to meet Marcus for food
Went up to his beautiful apartment for drinks putting us in a good mood
After the pre-drinks we made out way to spring awakening festival
Electric house dance music, raving, but not like bestival
Sunday was mums last day so we said farewell with a brunch
At trump towers don’t you know, plates full with posh munch
It was with sadness we waved our mother farewell
She was off back to England with 3 weeks of awesome stories to tell
In the evening we met up with Perrin at the honky tonk bar
Then after tacos and laughter we got in a taxi car
Time is flying by, it’s strange how it does
Already new experiences alter what once was
So onto the next chapter, in Chicago with Sam
Time is precious and there is much still to plan
I realise that in keeping a blog every day
It May be quite ambitious as some would say
So with this in mind and as I continue on
I will blog when I can, interesting things I stumble upon…
